Production Blog: That's a wrap!
Hey, welcome back!
Yesterday, we filmed the final scenes we needed! This completes the primary filming, although we may go back after others review our work to determine what else we need for a successful title sequence.
During the planning, we tried to make the scenes as simple as possible as we would be using my parents, so doing any scenes with more extreme violence would be uncomfortable. Furthermore, they aren't actors, so the scenes may come out unnatural and forced if we have them act out serious scenes. However, by toning all of this down, we had a much easier time during the filming process.
We began with the scene of the couple arguing as it appeared to be the simplest one. We were faced with a few issues as we attempted to film this. One big issue was figuring out how to make the voices not sound so clear through the microphone, to not sound as though the actors were talking to the microphone. To combat this we decided to have the actors stand farther from the microphone. By doing this, it makes it sound as though the microphone caught the couple arguing rather than the couple arguing into the microphone.
After completing that scene, we took a small break just to talk and figure out how we would accomplish the next scene. It was difficult to film as we had to film it through a large curtain while still getting sound. We thought of my room as there is an extremely large curtain covering the entirety of the wall with a siding door leading outside to my backyard. We quickly realized that we can open the sliding door and leave the curtains closed, so we can still hear the sound while being able to get the shot.
However, things hadn't worked out as we hoped. We planned to have the audio muffled in order to make the scene both easier on us and on our actors. When we opened the sliding door, the sound was very easily heard by the camera. We decided to attempt to close the door to see if the sound would be muffled, however, the actors couldn't be heard at all. We told the actors to yell the lines instead of simply talking to them and that's when we got it, we could only lightly hear the actors.
This was our final day of primary filming! I will begin to edit the clips so we can get them to an audience to critique before we film some more and re-edit the clips. I am so excited to move on to editing as that is my favorite part!
Thank you and see you next time!
