Production Blog: The Cupcake Debate!

Welcome back!
For our movie, we have to make cupcakes. We had debated purchasing pre-made products, however, it presented some issues. First of all, the issue of filming the cupcake-making process arose. If we were to purchase pre-made cupcakes, how were we supposed to film the process? So, we decided to not use premade cupcakes.
After deciding to make our own cupcakes, we again, had two options, box mix or from scratch. Box mix would be both easier and cheaper for us to use, however, it would be difficult to show the process with the limited amount of steps box mix has. Making the cupcakes would be both time-consuming and cost more, however, I have many of the ingredients in my house so the cost wouldn't be too extensive. Overall, we decided to make the cupcakes from scratch as we would have more content to use during the editing process.
When selecting what recipe we would use I came across the Perfect Vanilla Cupcake Recipe by Natasha's Kitchen. This recipe has minimal ingredients, and all the ones it does have, I have at home. I have used some of her other recipes in the past and they have all come out well, so I believe this is the best option for us. For the frosting, we have decided to not make our own in an effort to save time. The only scenes with the frosting we have planned are the coloring of the frosting and the piping of the frosting onto the cupcakes. Publix sells pre-made white frosting, we have decided to use this as this frosting is really good which will benefit our actors, and it makes things more convenient for us.
After school today, my mom and I stopped at Publix to pick up the frosting as well as the ingredients for the cupcakes we don't have. When we went there, they didn't have any buttermilk in stock, so we are going to go back another day to see if its there. All in all, I am excited to get this going, and I can't wait to begin!

See you next time!
