Production Blog: the Cupcake Scene!
Today we began the filming process! We had decided to work on the scene of baking the cupcakes, saving the icing part for another day. We had decided to not film the icing scene for a multitude of reseasons, mainly because we didn't have enough time or the materials to do so. We realized that baking the cupcakes from scratch would be a lengthy process. In order to make this experience more enjoyable for us, we had to make sure we would work on smaller sections so we wouldn't get bored or tired. We are also limited on time, so we simply couldn't do it. Furthermore, when I went to Publix to pick up the icing, they said they no longer had any in stock, so I have to come back another day.
Today we filmed the scenes of both making the batter and baking it. We still hadn't decided how we would show the progression of time while the cupcakes are baking. We have a few ideas which had left undecided. The first idea is to show a time quickly moving, when it goes off we show the wife pulling out the cupcakes. The second idea is to have a timelapse of the cupcakes baking, when they are done, we would show the wife pulling them out. The third and final idea is to show the wife placing the cupcakes into the oven, and show her working on the icing while she waits and when she finishes she pulls the cupcakes out of the oven. All in all, we decided to go with the third option as it was the most achievable for us with the time and resources we have.
However, we had minimal issues while filming. We had all the materials which made the filming process go very smoothly. However, the filming process began to get repetitive with each step as we had the change the camera angle for each step according to the storyboard. All in all, Emma and I had a lot of fun filming and I'm excited to continue doing so!
Thank you and see you next time!
