Production Blog: The beginning of the editing!

Welcome back!

Today I began the editing process. Emma and I decided I would edit the music video for two reasons. Firstly, I have prior editing experience, I have edited all of the other projects which have come out looking decent, so we decided that although she could edit it would be easier for both of us. Furthermore, for a more technical reason, we filmed all the takes on my phone, which automatically backs up to my computer, so it's just easier for us to have me edit it as I already have the takes on my computer.

I began with editing the hue, saturation, brightness, vibrance, etc. of our final project. I did this to make the lighting reflect the mood of each scene. We couldn't manipulate the lighting around us as much as we would've liked due to budget restraints. We couldn't just go out and buy lightboxes and things we needed for it, so we decided to manipulate it in the editing stage.

The first scene I edited was the cupcake scene. We wanted these scenes to be light and fun to juxtapose the dark and heavy scenes with the husband. I made the saturation and vibrance higher to make the scene appear brighter and happier. I then slightly made the brightness slightly higher to mimic the setting being light and airy.

The second scene I edited was the scene with the argument, specifically the curtain scene as the other one is just a black screen. I didn't have to edit this one all that much as much of the lighting was perfect. However, I did lower the lighting just a little to make it seem darker on the outside of the house, to simulate as though were seeing this at night time.

The last scene I edited was the blowing out candles scene. This scene was meant to be incredibly dark with the only light source being the candle on the cupcake. The cupcake didn't shine enough light which I only just realized, so I did have to slightly increase the brightness so the audience could see it. In order to make the candlelight more visually pleasing, I changed both the hue and saturation of the clip. This slightly changed the color of both the candle and the cupcake, providing more emphasis on them.

I will begin putting the clips together and finding music over the next few days, see you then!
