The Editing: Changing the Coloring
Hey, welcome back!
Today during my free time in each period I decided to get the coloring done for each shot. I noticed all of the shots were bland, taking on a dull tone. The easiest way to combat this is to whip out your phone and go into the editing to change the exposure, highlights, shadows, vibrance, saturation, etc.
Many of the shots had the same bright, warm coloring but the alarm scene was too bright for that. It was meant to imitate just waking up very early in the morning, and the bright lighting just wasn't cutting it. So I had to change the lighting settings, I greatly lowered the exposure which helped make the room darker, making it seem much earlier in the morning than it was. Just for the record, I filmed these scenes at night. The rest of the scenes were easy to color as I didn't need them to be as dark.
I then went ahead and cropped each of the shots to a 3:2 ratio. The one that needed the most cropping was the hot chocolate scene, specifically the one where I poured the milk into it from above. I realized quickly when editing the coloring of each video that I had left part of the pitcher of milk in the scene, which quite honestly, looks bad. To crop that out of the video, in that ratio, meant that I needed to crop the rest of the videos, so that's what I did.
I also just placed all the videos into my editor, when I encountered an issue. The videos were coming out blurry despite me filming them in 4K. I have yet to solve this, but for today I am just mapping out what I want to do and making sure the scenes fit the time frame. I hadn't filmed the scene of the house with Christmas lights, however, after putting all the videos into iMovie and cutting them down, I realized I didn't have enough time in the music video to even place them in. Honestly, this worked out well for me as I heard the man who owns that house isn't the nicest so there was a high likelihood he would've said no anyway.
In the next editing session, I plan to edit the music to fit the time frame I have to fill, and to work on fixing the blurry photos. Until then, have a great day!
