Music Video Storyboarding: Creating the vision

  • First Scene-
The first scene will be a short shot of an alarm going off and somebody pressing the top to turn it off. This will be shot from an eye-level angle with diegetic sound. This will be filmed in one of the bedrooms of my house, although this may not be super visible as the vast majority of the camera will be focused on the alarm clock.

  • Second Scene-
The second scene will be another short shot of someone turning on a song on a record player. It will be shot from a high angle looking over the entire record player. Once the person places the needle over the record that's when the song will begin to play, however, the song will not be part of the initial filming and will be added during the editing process. I do not own this record so the easiest option would be to add it during the editing process, also by adding the music this way, the music quality will be greatly improved.

  •     Third Scene-
The next shot will be another short shot of someone just pressing the "brew" button on a coffee maker. This will be shot at a low angle showcasing the entire coffee maker. I will film this in my kitchen as that is where it makes the most sense to be located.

  • Fourth Scene-
The next scene will be a longer scene showcasing the entire process of making hot chocolate. This will be shot through a variety of angles as it goes through the process of heating up the milk, adding in the powder, and adding the marshmallows. There will be high angles, eye-level angles, etc. This scene will have the music overlayed, but unlike the other scenes, there will be little to no dietetic sound.
    • Fifth Scene-
The fifth scene will be another short establishing shot of the living room. This is where the Christmas Tree will be located, it will be decorated. This shot will have no dietetic sound and will serve as the transition to the sixth scene.

    • Sixth Scene-
The sixth scene will then zoom to the stairs where children will be running down. This will be shot from a low angle. It will be cut once they get to the bottom of the stairs to transition to the next scene. This will again have no dietetic sound and will be filmed in my living room.

    • Seventh Scene-
The seventh scene will then cut to a parent meeting the kids downstairs and handing them the hot chocolate made in the fourth scene. This will be a long shot so I can get all the actors to fit within the shot. Although the actors will be talking to each other, you will not be able to hear what they are discussing.

    • Eighth Scene-
The eighth scene will then be a wide shot of the kids' opening presents. This is so I can get the children, the presents, and the Christmas tree in the shot. Again, in this scene, there will be no other sound than the chosen song.

    •   Ninth Scene-
In the ninth scene, will pan from the children to the parents sitting on their chairs, drinking their coffee, and watching the kids. This is done to capture that childish Christmas morning feel of opening presents.

    • Tenth Scene-
In the tenth scene, the camera will tilt from the top of the Christmas tree to the bottom. At the bottom of the tree, the children will still be there opening their presents. I chose to do this because it provides one last shot of Christmas morning before transitioning to the outside shot in the next scenes.

    • Eleventh Scene-
In the eleventh scene, there will be a wide shot and pan of a house with Christmas lights. I chose to do this because, in many of the music videos I watched, they had scenes of various Christmas-themed items, doing this will better integrate the music video with others in its genre.

    • Twelveth Scene-
In front of that same house, it will then show the family standing outside of it. It will only be the silhouettes of them standing in front of all the lights. This will be shot with a long shot.

*All the scenes expert the first and part of the second scene will have the same music overlayed.
