Christmas Song Research!

Hey, I hope your day is going well!
As Christmas is coming up I have decided to do a Christmas song for the music video. however, as there are so many to choose from I don't have any idea where to begin. This research will be able to assist me in finding which song I want to do and how I would like to execute it.

The first music video I watched was Michael Bublé's version of the infamous song "Let it, Snow". The editing of this commercial is really interesting as there so so much variety. There is usually a sharper cut between things they want to highlight and Bublé himself. If it isn't a sharp cut it's a fantastical transition, for example, ice melting away one image revealing another. In the sets, it uses items commonly attributed as Christmas-themed such as candy canes, ornaments, Christmas trees, lights, and most notably snow. The sound is just the song playing in the background with some added sound effects, it is unclear whether or not they are dietetic. The costumes used are simply outfits you would wear in cold weather, such as puffer jackets. The music video itself features Bublé singing the song throughout, almost, the entire thing in front of different backdrops.

The second music video I watched was (my personal favorite Christmas song), Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song". Most of this music video is just a man, who I'm going to assume is Nat King Cole, looking at the camera and singing in a medium close-up shot. However, around the 2:10 mark images are shown with a fade-in of traditional Christmas items. This entire video is in black and white except for the part showcasing the Christmas items. The man is just wearing a suit and singing to the camera. It is filmed somewhere where there are many wall decorations, it may be a hallway or a living room.

The third, and final, music video I watched was Burl Ives's "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas".  This commercial consists entirely of an elderly man in a rocking chair singing to the many children and families around him. Within the shots of the man singing there are close-up shots of children watching the man with interest. Everyone in this music video is wearing "Christmas" attire, basically, there are a lot of green and red, winter coats, and fluffy clothing. The background of this is very busy, with families decorating a Christmas tree, children playing with toys, etc. but it still shows things commonly associated with Christmas. At the end of the song, a tilt of the completed Christmas tree is shown with families gathered around opening presents. It then follows with a diegetic sound of everyone clapping.

As I went through these videos, I noticed certain conventions:

- There was someone singing the song.

- There were things that are associated with Christmas.

-Actors are always wearing Christmas themed clothing/ winter clothing.

-They are upbeat and contain happy themes.

Have a great day!
