Editing Blog: The Finishing Touches!

Hey, I hope everything going well!

I'm currently sitting at my desk, missing school because I got sick, and eating too much popcorn and soup, but this was an excellent opportunity to finish the editing.

All I had to do today was:

- Make sure the volume of each clip was cohesive.

- Make sure each transition was smooth and not out of place.

- Make sure everything is cohesive.

- Any other things I notice.

When watching the rough draft of the commercial I realized the second song sounded much louder than the first, which can make the commercial hard to watch. To fix this I lowered the sound in the second clip and increased the sound in the first. By doing this, it made the audio more even and in turn making the entire commercial more cohesive.

I had to keep watching on repeat to make sure nothing cut awkwardly, and thank the stars I did because I noticed that I missed a sharp cut. In the scenes after the beach scene I forgot to add a transition which made them seem out of place. To fix this all I did was add a dissolve transition which added a dream-like feel to the end.

With the music in the beginning being more up-beat than I originally intended, I had to do something to make sure that the scene clearly showed the dullness that we intended it to.  To make sure that emotion comes across I desaturated the clips, not enough for it to be completely back and white, but enough to make it seem dull and boring. In order to ensure it completely comes off this way I increased the saturation in the ending clips after the donut was taken a bite out of. This made it show the world was brighter to the actor after eating the donut.

I then noticed that you could barely see the actor (Riley) in the very first clip. It was almost like a jump-scare that she just popped up and left as quickly as she came in. We were at 30 seconds so I had to shorten one of the clips to lengthen the other. Luckily, the other clip had an awkward amount of time focused on the Dunkin' box so I was able to shorten it enough to add time to the other clip. The clip was originally from her waist up, but it looked a little awkward so I just cropped it to be from the chest up.

As quick as the project was filmed it was finished, and I love the results and I hope you end of loving it as much as I do.
